What is your favorite EH pattern and why?

Perennial Fabric - Sprout

"The Perennial fabric in Sprout from the Crafted Collection! I love the range of blues and greens as well as the ratio of color to neutral ground in that one. It feels timeless but also fresh."

Where would you use Perennial and how would you style it?

Perennial Fabric - Sprout

"The size of the pattern repeat makes it really versatile - it would make beautiful drapery panels, pillows or even a headboard! I'd pair it with solid, textural blues or greens and a classic small scale check."

What is the first thing you start with when designing a room?

"It totally depends on the project/client and from what we are drawing inspiration, but space planning is always one of the first things that has to happen! It can be tempting to jump ahead to the 'pretty stuff', but it's crucial to nail down a functional furniture layout that serves your family's needs as the foundation for any space."

Do you see any advantages of working with smaller textile lines?

"I love working with boutique lines. It allows me to incorporate fabrics and wallpapers that haven't been seen a million times before, which is really helpful as I'm creating personal and unique spaces for my clients. There is also usually more opportunity for customization within smaller lines, and the ability to play around with scale and colorways is invaluable when you have a really specific textile need!"

What's your favorite room to design?

"On the design side, bathrooms. On the decorating side, bedrooms. "

Thank you, Kate, for chatting with us and sharing tidbits about your approach to design, color, and pattern!
