DRAPERY & HARDWARE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Ordering, Shipping & Returns

What is included with my drapery order?

Drapery panel(s) and adjustable metal drapery hooks (not pre-installed).

Hardware (including rings and rods) is sold separately.

Are panels sold invidiually or as a pair?

Our drapery panels are sold individually to allow complete flexibility when designing your windows.

For one single window, you need to order a quantity of two panels.

How do I know the panel width is correct?

Our standard width is 40"w for (1) finished panel. This is industry standard for 1.5 widths. This is best for all standard windows.

If you have an extra wide window and need fuller panels, please email us for a custom quote.

How do I determine panel length?

Install your drapery rod just below the crown molding (or 6-12" above the window frame).

Extend your rod 6-12" beyond each side of the window for the best look, if space allows.

Measure from the bottom of the drapery ring straight down to the floor. This is your starting point for selecting your panel length.

Select the panel length that closely matches your measurement. If you are between sizes, we generally recommend choosing the longer panel and using adjustable hooks to fine-tune finished height.

Because our fabrics contain natural fibers, slight relaxation after installation is expected. Most settling occurs within the first few days of hanging and is typically minimal. This natural movement is one of the characteristics that gives linen its relaxed, timeless appearance.

Can I order custom widths or lengths?

Yes - if you have a custom request, please email us for an accurate quote.

Can I order fabric by the yard instead?

Yes - all of our proprietary designs are available in fabric by the yard on our website.

What is the lead time for panels?

Our drapery panels are printed and sewn to order in the southeast US. All orders will take approximately 4-5 weeks.

What is the lead time for hardware?

Please allow approximately 3 weeks for your custom hardware to arrive.

Can I return my panels / hardware?

Because every order is custom, returns are not accepted for panels or hardware unless there is a specific issue with the fabric or the hardware, upon which the customer is expected to submit photos and a request within 24 hours of receipt.

Construction

What type of pleat do you use?

We use a two-finger pinch pleat professional sewn, designed to create consistent folds.

What are my lining options?

Privacy - soft light filtering (best for living spaces)

Blackout - complete light filtering (best for bedrooms)

Are the hooks already installed?

No - adjustable hooks are intentionally left unattached so you can fine-tune the finished height once your rod is installed.

Will my drapes arrive wrinkled?

Drapery panels are folded for shipping. They will likely arrive wrinkled. Steaming is recommended. The fabric will relax after hanging. Please hang your panels 24-48 hours before steaming for the best results.

Do I need to train the pleats?

Yes - gently dressing and training the folds during the first week creates a tailored look.

Hardware

Do I need special hardware?

No, however, we recommend pairing our panels with Elliston House Hardware for the best fit and appearance.

What rod diameter will work?

The rod diameter you choose must fit with the ring circumference. Any rod diameter will work with our custom drapery panels. We reccommend and sell 1 1/4" rods.

Installation

How high should I hang my rod?

We recommend installing your rod 6–12 inches above the window frame (or just below the ceiling or crown molding) to create the illusion of taller ceilings.

Should the panels touch the floor?

Kissing the Floor (Recommended)

Panels just graze the floor for a clean, tailored look.

Best for: Most homes and everyday living.

Slight Break

Panels extend about ½–1 inch onto the floor for a softer, more relaxed appearance.

Best for: Bedrooms and traditional interiors.

Puddled

Panels extend 2–6 inches beyond the floor, creating an elegant puddled effect.

Best for: Formal living rooms or decorative spaces.

Not recommended for high-traffic areas or homes with children or pets.

Select the panel length that most closely matches your measurement. If you're between sizes, we generally recommend choosing the longer panel and using the adjustable hooks to fine-tune the finished height.

How wide should my rod be?

For the widest, most balanced look, extend your rod 6–12 inches beyond each side of the window, when space allows.

Care

How do I clean my panels?

Professional dry cleaning is recommended.

Can I iron my panels?

Steaming is preferred.

Will the fabric fade?

Like all textiles, prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause colors to gradually soften over time. The rate of fading depends on several factors, including the amount of direct sun your windows receive, your geographic location, and the color of the fabric.

To help preserve the beauty of your drapery, we recommend:

  • Using drapery linings, which help provide an additional layer of protection.

  • Closing your drapery during periods of intense afternoon sun when possible.

  • Rotating decorative panels occasionally if they receive uneven sun exposure.

  • Considering our performance fabrics or blackout lining options for spaces with significant sun exposure.

Some softening of color is a natural characteristic of textiles and is not considered a manufacturing defect.

Note for linen panels:

Natural fibers, including linen, develop character over time. Gentle softening of both the fabric and color is part of the aging process and contributes to the relaxed, lived-in beauty that makes linen so timeless.
